Enabling Act
Export and Import Permits Act (EIPA)
Rationale
The purpose of this review is to assess its relevance and usefulness.
Narrative
This statutory instrument was adopted to facilitate the implementation of the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement (CIFTA). It provides that any resident of Canada can import from Israel or another CIFTA beneficiary, for their personal use or the use of their household, roses not exceeding two dozen in respect of each importation.
However, due to a renegotiation of the CIFTA, implemented in 2003, all originating roses imported from Israel or another CIFTA beneficiary can now be imported duty-free into Canada.
