Review of Allocation Method Order - Beef and Veal - SOR/96-186
Title of the statutory instrument
Allocation Method Order - Beef and Veal - SOR/96-186
Enabling Act
Export and Import Permits Act (EIPA)
Rationale
Following the completion of the upcoming consultations regarding the administration of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Beef and Veal Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ), the statutory instrument may be reviewed to assess its effectiveness and ensure it remains relevant and aligned with evolving legislation, policy objectives and priorities.
Narrative
When the WTO Beef and Veal TRQ policy was last updated, under the Canada Tariff Elimination Schedule of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), the out-of-access tariff on imports into Canada of fresh, chilled, or frozen beef and veal originating from CPTPP member countries was fully eliminated. Beef and veal, which meet the rules of origin and other relevant requirements provided in the CPTPP, is now duty free. Depending on the outcome of the consultations, changes may need to be made to this allocation method order to reflect any changes made to the policy.
