Review of General Import Permit No. 80 - Carbon Steel - SOR/2012-17
Title of the statutory instrument
General Import Permit No. 80 - Carbon Steel - SOR/2012-17
Enabling Act
Export and Import Permits Act (EIPA)
Rationale
Review of the regulations to align with evolving legislation, administrative needs or government policy objectives and priorities regarding supply chain transparency.
Narrative
This regulation allows the importation of carbon steel products without the need for a shipment-specific import permit. Development of proposed regulatory amendments to require country of melt and pour information are in progress.
Currently, the regulations remain relevant as carbon steel products were indefinitely added to the Import Control List in 2020. There is therefore no immediate requirement for change.
