NATO Common Infrastructure Project Remission Order - C.R.C., c. 1321

Enabling Act

Privileges and Immunities (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) Act

Rationale

Narrative

This Order remits certain duties and taxes on goods imported or purchased by the NATO Common Infrastructure Project. It is necessary to evaluate whether this remission of fees is still required today.

Result

Confirmed: The recommendation is to keep this regulation / authority on the books.

Canada currently has one NATO funded project, and five pre-financed statements seeking infrastructure projects to be included in NATO Capability Programme Plans (CPP) (4 x in Latvia and 1 x in Halifax (NB Jetty)). Canada could certainly be purchasing equipment, materials and supplies for the exclusive use of the construction and development of systems and services funded (partially or fully) by the NATO Security Investment Programme (NSIP) where this authority would be required / be applicable.
