Review of European Communities Privileges and Immunities Order - C.R.C., c. 1308
Title of the statutory instrument
European Communities Privileges and Immunities Order - C.R.C., c. 1308
Enabling Act
Foreign Missions and International Organizations Act (FMIOA)
Rationale
Determining whether the privileges and immunities granted for European Communities (EC) in the Order must be maintained.
Narrative
This Order grants privileges and immunities to the EC. The EC are a former European economic association designed to integrate the economies of Europe. The organisation was abolished in 2009 by the treaty of Lisbon.
It is necessary to evaluate whether those privileges and immunities are still required today, and if the repeal of the Order would result in unintended legal consequences.
